Oh, Sagres... What a place. All you feel there is a sense of stillness. The wind, the ocean, the sea-carved cliffs and nothing else. Mother Nature in all its glory. Being in Sagres is feeling like you've reached the end of Earth: once you stand on those high rocks, the sea seems endless. We started the day by visiting the Sagre's Fortress, which has been there for ages and used to be a geo-strategic maritime defense system. Since it is almost impossible to separate the portuguese people from their connection to the ocean, we believe this place really shows the beauty of living near the tall waves. On the afternoon, we visited Beliche's Beach - hands down, one of the most beautiful beaches we know -, which is also located in Sagres. We had to go through a bunch of stairs to get in there, but it was definitely worth the effort. The beach was surrounded by very high cliffs defining the boundaries of the whole cenario and adjusting the sea to fit the area, creating a very natural and raw view. Have any of you been here?

Oh, Sagres... Que lugar. É impossível que não se entranhe uma sensação de quietude depois de lá chegarmos. O vento, o oceano, as falésias moldadas pelo mar e nada mais. A Mãe Natureza em toda a sua plenitude. Estar em Sagres é sentir que atingimos o fim da Terra: do topo das falésias, o mar sente-se infinito. Começamos este dia a visitar a Fortaleza, que já existe há séculos e que funcionava como um sistema defensivo marítimo geo-estratégico. Como é quase impossível dissociar os portugueses da sua ligação com o oceano, acreditamos que este lugar transmite na perfeição a beleza que reside em viver perto do mar. Pela tarde, decidimos visitar a Praia do Beliche - sem dúvida alguma, uma das praias mais bonitas que conhecemos -, que também fica em Sagres. Tivemos que descer imensos degraus (que não recomendamos a pessoas com vertigens!), mas valeu definitivamente o esforço. A praia é rodeada por falésias muito altas que definem os limites de todo o cenário e ajustam o mar, criando uma paisagem muito natural e crua. Já estiveram por aqui?

Blue is the warmest color

We're back! After leaving home on the september 8th and spending twelve days down south, we are back full of memories to share. Our days there were filled with sun, sea, salt and sand, because Portugal's coast is seriously breathtaking. And, well, we're both sea kids. We've always lived by the beach and we couldn't picture life without it. We've spent most days in Portimão - where the pictures above were taken -, but we've also been to Sagres and Luz, so we will be blogging more about our holidays. This blog post features the Três Castelos beach (which means "three castles' beach" in portuguese), our personal favorite from Portimão: clear water, the most beautiful rock formations and beautiful earth tones. Also, in one of our many walks around the beach, we found that face sculpture at the tip of a rock. How cool is that?!

On a different note, we were so happy to see that, while we were gone, you guys kept commenting our blog! Thank you!! We really appreciate all the kind words and support.

Estamos de volta! Depois de rumarmos a sul no dia oito de setembro, estamos de volta e cheios de memórias para partilhar. Os nossos dias por lá foram cheios de sol, mar, sal e areia, porque a costa de Portugal é simplesmente arrebatadora e vale muito a pena explorar. E, bem, somos ambos crianças do mar. Sempre vivemos perto da praia e não conseguimos imaginar estar longe do oceano. Passamos a maior parte dos dias em Portimão - onde as fotografias deste post foram tiradas -, mas também fomos espreitar Sagres e Luz, por isso contem com mais duas publicações sobre as nossas férias. Nesta publicação mostramo-vos a Praia dos Três Castelos, a nossa favorita em Portimão: água límpida, formações rochosas de uma dimensão incrível e os tons terra mais bonitos. Além disso, numa das nossas caminhadas pela praia, encontramos a escultura que podem ver na última fotografia. Quão cool é isto?!

Mudando de assunto (e porque precisamos que saibam isto), ficamos muito contentes por ver que continuaram a comentar o nosso blog enquanto estivemos fora! Obrigada!! Damos imenso valor às vossas palavras. Mesmo.

Wandering the streets of Sevilla

Hi, guys! Today's post is a little throwback to a trip we made exactly a year ago to Sevilla. This one was special, because it was our first time abroad together. We plan to go on many adventures in the near future, nevertheless we believe Sevilla was the perfect place to start this journey. To be able to share this beauty with the person you love is outstanding, and we couldn't be more grateful for the chance that life gave us, so that we could find our path and start building it brick by brick on our own. Have any of you been to Sevilla too?

ps: We're done with finals, at last! Yesterday we headed south for twelve days of beach days and roadtrips, so we will not be blogging until we get back home. Meanwhile, you can follow us on instagram - @sararsferreira @joelrsoliveira - for some updates.

Film never dies

As we wrote in the last post, we've been stuck at home for the past weeks studying for finals (only one more left though, fingers crossed!). We've been craving for beach days, roadtrips and seascapes so bad that days seem to go by so slowly... Only four more days until we head south. Only four more days. 

Mumblings aside, lets talk about the actual post. These are film photographs. If you've been reading our blog for a while, you  already know that we both love film photography. We love the feeling of not knowing what the results are going to look like, of having just one shot to get it right. And we love the aura of film. The pictures always look so different, so raw, so... We really don't know how to put it into words. We took these in a famous market of Oporto - Bolhão Market. The people who work there are full of caracther (but they are a bit camera-shy), all the fruits and flowers make that place full of life, you can find cats trying to steal fish and sunbathing on the rooftops... It's ultimately the perfect place to photograph. If you know the city, you probably know this market. If you don't know the city, please come already! Seriously, it's one of our favorite cities in Portugal. We were lucky enough to study in Oporto for the past three years and it always felt damn good to leave college and walk to the train station through the beautiful streets of the city. Oh, the memories.

Como escrevemos no último post, temos estado presos em casa nas últimas semanas a estudar para os nossos últimos exames (só falta um, fingers crossed!). Andamos a ansiar tanto dias de praia, viagens de carro e o mar como pano de fundo que os dias parecem passar demasiado lentamente... Só mais quatro dias até rumarmos a sul. Só mais quatro dias. 

Devaneios à parte, vamos falar do post. Estas são fotografias analógicas. Se costumam ler o nosso blog, já sabem que ambos adoramos fotografia analógica. Adoramos o sentimento de não saber como vão sair os resultados, de termos uma oportunidade apenas para acertarmos. E adoramos a aura do filme. As fotografias acabam por ser sempre tão diferentes, tão cruas, tão... Não sabemos bem como colocar isto em palavras. Estas acima foram tirados no famoso Mercado do Bolhão, no Porto. As pessoas que lá trabalham têm todas uma personalidade enorme (mas são um bocadinho tímidas no que toca a câmaras), as frutas e as flores fazem daquele um lugar cheio de vida, podem encontrar gatos a tentar roubar peixe e a apanhar sol nos telhados... É, no fundo, o sítio perfeito para quem gosta de fotografar. Se conhecem a cidade, de certeza que conhecem este mercado. Se não conhecem a cidade, venham visitá-la, por favor! É mesmo uma das nossas cidades favoritas de Portugal. Tivemos a sorte de estudar no Porto nos últimos três anos e sabia sempre tão bem sair da faculdade e caminhar até à estação de comboios pelas ruas da cidade. Tantas memórias.
