I've been wanting to experiment with videography for a while now, since I often find myself filming little moments of life with Joel. For me, photography, cinematography, music, art in general, really, seems to have this immense power of connecting humans with one another. Being able to fill empty spaces with raw emotions and share them with others feels like something so rare these days... People need to allow themselves to feel things again. Not by liking a picture on instagram, not by sharing how happy you are about your trip to London on facebook. But by truly spending time with your loved ones, to truly connect with them. 

'Selfless Love' is a short film about loving wholeheartedly, not expecting anything in return. It is a gift for the man you see above; for the most caring, genuine human being I know. And, hopefully, it is a reminder to you that life is so much more than having followers on social media, expensive clothes or fancy cars, things, just things. Aim for something greater than that.

Videografia é algo que já queria experimentar há algum tempo, já que é tão comum dar comigo mesma a filmar pequenos momentos com o Joel. Para mim, fotografia, cinema, música, a arte em geral parece ter este poder enorme de relacionar ser humanos uns com os outros. Poder preencher espaços vazios com sentimentos crus e partilhá-los com outras pessoas começa a ser algo tão raro nos dias que correm... Precisamos de nos permitir sentir coisas outra vez. Não ao gostar de uma fotografia no instagram, não ao partilhar no facebook o quão felizes estamos pela viagem que fizemos a Londres. Mas ao passar tempo com quem gostamos, a relacionarmo-nos de verdade uns com os outros.

'Selfless Love' é um pequeno filme sobre amar de coração cheio, sem esperar nada em troca. É um presente para ti, meu amor, a pessoa mais genuína que conheço. E é também - espero - um lembrete para mim, para ti, para vocês, de que a vida é tão mais do que os seguidores que temos nas redes sociais, do que as roupas caras e do que os carros aparatosos, do que coisas... apenas coisas. Queiram algo melhor do que isso.

Hi, guys. It's been a while.

We miss writing for you, sharing the things we love, reading your kind words and give back some inpiration... But truth is we don't really have a better excuse for our absence than this: Growing up is hard. We've been trying to figure out how to do it this whole time. 

We're still here, though. And that's all it matters, really. Future is just a concept, right? We're never truly in the future... We're just here, right now. And this precise moment is all we have. So, people in your twenties: if you're having a hard time growing up, like us, please know that it's okay.

Hi, guys. O tempo voa... E passou-se mais de um mês desde a nossa última publicação. 

Temos saudades de escrever para vocês, de partilhar as coisas que nos aquecem o coração, de ler as vossas palavras e de retribuir alguma inspiração... Mas a verdade é que não temos nenhuma desculpa  melhor para a nossa ausência a não ser esta: Crescer é difícil. E temos estado a tentar descobrir como é que isto se faz. Mas ainda estamos aqui. É tudo o que importa. O futuro é apenas um conceito, certo? Nunca estamos verdadeiramente no futuro... Estamos apenas aqui, agora. E este preciso momento é tudo o que temos. Por isso, pessoas que estão na casa dos 20: se, como nós, estão confusos com esta coisa de crescer, por favor saibam que está tudo bem.

Indian summer

Yes, we know... Last week we were talking about how much we love autumn and now we're mentioning summer again. Truth is, these pictures were taken today and this weather is actually pretty normal in our country: almost every year, we have a few days like this in early november. We - portuguese people - even have a name for it! It's our own indian summer, but we like to call it "saint martin' summer". So today we decided to enjoy the weather and went to a natural park nearby where we live. The most beautiful orange light peaking through the naked branches, a light breeze and the quietness of mother nature. You guys already know that this is totally our thing, right? As The Doors once sang, We love you, the best/ Better than all the rest, November.

Sim, nós sabemos... Na semana passada, estávamos a escrever sobre o quanto gostamos do outono e já estamos a mencionar o verão outra vez, mas a verdade é que estas fotografias foram tiradas hoje. Se, como nós, vivem em Portugal, isto não deve soar assim tão estranho, já que por esta altura, todos os anos, recebemos sempre o nosso verão de São Martinho. Novembro começa sempre assim, quentinho e cheio de luz, e é tão bom! Por isso, hoje decidimos ir até ao Parque Natural do Buçaquinho (em Esmoriz, Aveiro), que é um dos nossos sítios favoritos aqui ao pé de casa. A luz laranja mais bonita a espreitar por entre os ramos despidos, a brisa leve e a quietude da mãe natureza. Já sabem que isto é totalmente a nossa cara, certo? Como The Doors uma vez cantaram, We love you, the best/ Better than all the rest, Novembro.

I love you, honeybear

Music plays a big role in our lives. It's there when we cook, it's there when we drive, it's there when we study, it's there when it rains, it's there when insomina kicks in. Music is there when we don't feel like being anywhere in the world. And music helped us through three rough years of college. The Doors were there and so were Fleet Foxes, Joan Baez, Led Zeppelin, BB King, Foals, Pink Floyd, Foo Fighters, Angus & Julia Stone, Beirut and many, many others. They still are. They always will be. Joel sings beautifully, plays guitar and ukulele. Everytime I hear him play, my heart separates in pieces just so his voice can pull them back together and I wish he knew how good he is.

 I'v never been good with words, so I take pictures of Joel, the way I see him. I love you, honeybear.

A música tem um papel importante nas nossas vidas. Está lá quando cozinhamos, quando conduzimos, quando estudamos, quando chove, quando temos noites de insónia. A música está lá quando não queremos estar em lugar algum. E a música ajudou-nos a sobreviver a três anos duros de faculdade. The Doors estiveram lá para nós, assim como Fleet Foxes, Joan Baez, Led Zeppelin, BB King, Foals, Pink Floyd, Foo Fighters, Angus & Julia Stone, Beirut e tantos, tantos outros. Ainda estão por aqui. Vão estar sempre. O Joel canta deliciosamente bem, toca guitarra e ukelele. Sempre que o ouço tocar, o meu coração separa-se em pedacinhos só para que a voz dele possa vir aqui juntá-los de novo e dou por mim a desejar que ele soubesse quão imenso é o talento dele.

Nunca fui boa com palavras, por isso fotografo-o, como o vejo. I love you, honeybear.
